Migrate Azure AD Connect
If the domain controller you with to demote and decommission runs the Azure AD Connect service, you first need to migrate the services onto another domain controller.

Export the Existing Configuration
- Open Azure AD Connect and select Configure.
- Choose View or export current configuration and select Next.
- Select Export Settings and save the generated file.
Shutdown Sync Service
- Open Services.msc.
- Locate the Microsoft Azure AD Sync service and stop the service.
Import the Configuration
- Migrate the generated file onto the new domain controller.
- Download and start the Azure AD Connect installer.
- Accept the Microsoft Software License Terms, and on the next page, select Customize.
- Select the Import synchronization settings check box and select the file we previously exported. Select Install.
Uninstall Old Service
Once you’ve confirmed that the services has been migrated successfully, uninstall the Azure AD Connect service from the old DC.
