Hybrid Azure AD Join (HJAAD) is commonly a companies first step into connecting their infrastructure into the cloud. HAADJ allows organizations to continue using Active Directory and its GPO-based policies while simultaneously using Microsoft Intune and its cloud-based configuration policies.

The primary purpose of HAADJ from Microsoft’s eyes is to migrate fully onto their cloud platform and decommission Active Directory completely, however as of 2024, its still common for command to maintain a connection to both platforms due to legacy requirements.
